Larisa Safaryan's unique sculptures are made of eggshells. They are delicate but intense, elaborate yet down-to-earth. They are demanding, and leave no room for error. The spirit of innovation and excitement is at the heart of all that the artist creates. The love, passion and thought that goes into each of her sculptures is truly inspirational.

Whitney Museum of American Art

As the preeminent institution devoted to the art of the United States, the Whitney Museum of American Art presents the full range of twentieth-century and contemporary American art, with a special focus on works by living artists. The Whitney is dedicated to collecting, preserving, interpreting, and exhibiting American art, and its collection—arguably the finest holdings of twentieth-century American art in the world—is the Museum’s key resource. The Museum’s flagship exhibition, the Biennial, is the country’s leading survey of the most recent developments in American art.

Designed by architect Renzo Piano and situated between the High Line and the Hudson River, the Whitney’s current building vastly increases the Museum’s exhibition and programming space, providing the most expansive view ever of its unsurpassed collection of modern and contemporary American art.

Description:

“I started using this unconventional and fragile medium because it resembles the fragility of life. I can show through my works how beautiful and ephemeral that fragility can be.” Larisa Safaryan's unique sculptures on eggshells are her subtle but direct expression of the joy, energy, and emotionality that she carries inside her. The sculptures are delicate but intense, elaborate yet simple, harmonious and elegant. The spirit of innovation and excitement is at the heart of all that Larisa Safaryan creates. The love, passion, and thought that goes into each of her sculptures is truly inspirational.

My work contemplates fundamental things such as our basic need to provide for ourselves; our desire for home, belonging, and connection; and our being a small temporary part of the natural world’s continuum. These thoughts take shape in images and objects that combine simple representations, layered abstractions, and plain-spoken materials
